Bringing Sicilian Flavours to Life with Watercolour
There’s something so special about food illustrations—the way a splash of colour can make your mouth water, evoking the taste, smell, and experience of a delicious meal. Over the past few years, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with The Sicilian Deli, creating bespoke watercolour illustrations to bring their incredible offerings to life.

The Sicilian Deli is more than just a shop; it’s a celebration of authentic flavours, quality produce, and vibrant culture. With two locations in South London, they serve up everything from artisan cheeses and cured meats to irresistible cannoli and espresso. My challenge was to capture the essence of their delicious products and the heart of their brand through watercolour illustrations.
The Process Behind the Artwork
Each piece starts with a moment of inspiration. Whether it’s the earthy tones of an olive branch, the juicy sheen of ripe oranges, or the intricate folds of a freshly baked arancino, I aim to reflect the energy and flavour of these beautiful ingredients. Using a splashy, fluid technique, my illustrations are full of movement—bringing a sense of life to the final pieces.
These artworks now feature prominently across the deli’s branding. You can find them adorning posters, decorating shop displays, and enhancing packaging. It’s been so rewarding to see my work integrated into their world, celebrating their food in such a unique and personal way.
Why Watercolour?
Watercolour is the perfect medium for food illustrations because of its vibrant transparency and organic feel. It’s a medium that thrives on imperfection, making it ideal for capturing the natural, rustic charm of Sicilian cuisine. The delicate layering of washes and splashes mirrors the intricate flavours of the deli’s offerings.

Visit The Sicilian Deli (and See My Work!)
If you’re in South London, I highly recommend visiting The Sicilian Deli in Herne Hill or West Dulwich. Not only will you discover a treasure trove of delectable treats, but you’ll also spot my illustrations dotted throughout their shops. It’s such a joy to see how art can enhance the customer experience and add a touch of charm to an already delightful space.
